5 Tips to Keep your Home Decor Fresh and Clean

Maintaining a home with fresh and clean decorations is something that every homeowner strives for. Having clean home decor allows you to comfortably invite guests over and enhances your overall health. According to a study done at Indiana University, there is a positive correlation between a clean home and physical fitness. Although everyone would like to keep their home clean, many people overlook some basic things that you need to do in order to achieve this goal. Learn five basic house cleaning tips that you may be overlooking, to effectively keep your home looking and feeling clean.

Clean Your Marble Frequently

Marble is a unique substance because, unlike other things around your house, it stains very quickly. Therefore, if you spill something on this surface, you better clean it up fast. Getting stains out of marble is not impossible, but it is very time consuming and can be difficult to do if you don't know how to do it properly. That is why cleaning your marble frequently is key to preserving the appearance of your home.

Maintain Your Wood Counters

Often times, people overlook their wood counters when they decide to do cleaning around the house. They figure that wood does not get dirty and therefore doesn’t require maintenance. Contrary to popular belief, wood has the tendency to develop scratches and stains. The most effective way to get rid of these is by sanding the area. To prevent future damage to your wood counters, always wipe up spills quickly and use cutting boards. Doing so will help keep them looking like they are brand new.

Clean Air Filters Frequently

Just like wood counters, cleaning your air filters is another thing that many people don't take into consideration when cleaning their homes. However, doing so is extremely important. By cleaning your air filters frequently, you are allowing the filters to effectively do their jobs of making the air in your home clean. If you do not clean them, they can get clogged and will no longer be able to filter out the air correctly. If you don't have one already, I would recommend installing an eco-friendly, washable and reusable air filter in your home. These types of filters purify your homes air more efficiently than a traditional filter, are easy to clean, and will also save you money in the long run.

Condition Your Leathers

While it is true that leather tends to look better with age, this only happens when the material is properly maintained. You can effectively care for your leather by using a special leather conditioner that can be purchased at most home improvement stores. Using this conditioner will prevent the leather from drying out and cracking. After using this conditioner, I would also recommend vacuuming and then buffing it with a dry microfiber cloth in order to really ensure that your leather is being properly cared for.

Deep Clean Your Carpets

When cleaning carpets, many people just use a vacuum, or give them a basic scrub down and call it a day. However, just vacuuming or spot cleaning your carpets is not sufficient enough. You need to deep clean them as well. Deep cleaning your carpets will remove stains that are impossible to remove with a basic scrub down and will really make your carpets look brand new. Investing in a steam cleaner is well worth the cost and something every homeowner should do. After you deep clean your carpets, I would recommend setting up a dehumidifier in the room afterward in order to help the floor dry as quickly as possible.

Keeping your home fresh and clean is something many people want to do, but don't know how to do properly. They overlook basic things such as changing air filters and maintaining counter tops. If you want to ensure your home decor is fresh and clean, all you have to do is follow these five house cleaning tips and hacks and you will be well on your way to achieving this goal.
